Quality Of Flum Demo Release
Yall know what? I think I'm beginning to like that Update scheme I'm cooking up here! One small update a week is surprisingly easy to manage! I'm already exited of what I'll come up with next week!
But let's not focuse on what could be, but on what happened! The longest update name yet "Quality Of Flum Demo" (obviously being a play on words with "Quality Of Life") is out now! This includes a new enemy, many new features, a ton of polishing and bug fixing and even a new hat!
...after thinking about it, maybe the update isn't actually that small.
Anyways! Let's get right into this weeks additions:
As always, I have added a new enemy! This dangerous foe will come up from below, taking the appearence of a firework and then exploding right into your face! It spawns a bunch of particles, so watch out where you are bouncing!
The second addition is an entire new mode - Practice Mode! This mode will only feature spiked enemies (to prevent the player from seeing things they aren't yet skilled enough to reach), doesn't spawn coins and gives you an infinite amount of lifes! You can then press "E" at any point to leave the practice mode and go back to the main menu. I got the idea because this mode is esentially what the first version of the game was! This is great for testing the movement, especially because...
...of the new "Settings" page! Here you can chose to display the small arrow over the Flums Hat, change the Music and SFX volume and (please be ready to applaud) set the control method to pressing the mouse button instead of the spacebar! This was a wildly requested feature, and although I find it more comfortable to use the spacebar to move, you now have the option to defy all laws of my subjective logic and use the mouse instead! Voice lines and text on screen will also change depending on which mode you selected.
as a last addition, there have been changes to the Hats Menu - aswell as the addition of an entirely new Hat!
To start, you will now need to unlock one single adjacent Hat to be able to unlock the one you want. So if you would like to buy the rightmost Hat, you will have to "buy" yourself a path to that Hat! I hope this will give players a way better sense of progression in the game.
Last but not least, the new Hat! It is basically the "Revert Gravity" effect, but active all the time - except when the "Revert Gravity" effect is active. Don't get confused!
More, smaller changes:
I finally figured out who made the Music for the game! The songs name is "JESUS" and the creator (Wenebis) is now credited in the main menu. Also, after looking through old messages of him and me, I found another, unfinished song which was originally planned for my Clicker! game - but never got used. It fit the Main Menu really well and I have done my best to make it a good listening experience, despite the unfinished state. This song, simply called "Chill", is also made by Wenebis.
Developement:
As always, let me show you a few things that I recorded during the developement of this new Demo!
Mistake made during the developement of the settings screen. What the hell is a "Mous"??
This was the Settings Menu when I opened it for the very first time. It truly is a face only a mother (or a father in this case) can love.
Believe it or not, but I actually used this one for quite a while to test the features! The design elements were only added some time later.
The end!
Thanks for reading - as always! If you enjoyed my rambling, there is more on my discord server! You can also leave feedback there and take a look at the progress - while it's being made! If you are lucky, you can even catch me in a Voice Chat from time to time... although I am not sure if I should really call you lucky in that case...
See you around!
